How we work with families

A quiet, considered pace

We do not rush appointments or correspondence. Family matters often need space; we try to provide that space rather than push a process forward before it is ready.

Plain written records

After each appointment, you receive a short written note setting out the position as we understand it. These notes are yours to keep and share with anyone you trust.

Honest about what we can offer

If a matter falls outside what we handle well, we say so. We would rather refer you to the right person than take work that does not serve you.

Discreet at every stage

Everything you share with us is handled with strict professional confidentiality. Our offices, communications, and records are managed with your privacy in mind.

Transparent pricing

Our fees are stated clearly at the start. We do not add items without discussion, and any scope changes are agreed in writing before work continues.

Children's interests front of mind

In every custody or parenting matter, we keep the wellbeing of children as the central reference point. The arrangements we help draft are built to support that.

Would a quiet conversation help you understand your position?

Our Listening Appointment is a space to speak about your situation without obligation. We prepare a short written note of what we hear, which you take away to read in your own time.

Questions people often ask

What happens during a Listening Appointment?

We begin with a few questions about your circumstances, then we listen. We do not advise you during the appointment itself; instead, we prepare a short written note setting out the position as we understand it. You take this note away with you. There is no obligation to proceed further unless you choose to.

How long does a mediated agreement take to prepare?

This depends on the complexity of the points reached in mediation and whether both parties have settled their positions clearly. For straightforward matters, we usually deliver a draft within two to three weeks of receiving the mediation record. One round of revisions is included at no additional cost.

What does Long-term Family Representation include?

It is a complete engagement covering court representation, mediated review sessions as they arise, and all written correspondence with the other party's legal representatives. We adjust how actively we work depending on what the matter requires at a given time — more intensive around hearings, more measured in quieter periods.

Do you handle matters involving children specifically?

Yes. Custody arrangements, care schedules, and parenting agreements are a significant part of our work. We approach these matters carefully, keeping the children's day-to-day wellbeing as the primary reference throughout the process.

Can I come in without knowing what I need?

That is exactly what the Listening Appointment is for. Many of the people who come to us have not yet formed a clear picture of what they want. We do not expect you to arrive with a brief; we expect to help you find one.

Are your fees fixed, or can they change?

The fees shown are what you pay for the described scope of work. If your matter requires something beyond that scope, we discuss it with you before any additional work begins. Nothing is added without your written agreement.
